Descent from the Cross
I am a Christian artist. The Cross and Resurrection have been life-changing experiences for me.
It is a great challenge to convincingly capture the emotional and powerful event of the cross. I chose to compress the space around the figures to emphasize the act of bringing the body down from the cross. I have painted Christ's figure as pallid to emphasize His death. At the same time, the figures around him have color and life to suggest His death brings life. The tree to the right is symbolic of life and resurrection to follow.
My desire was to paint a contemporary depiction of this powerful event. I hope it inspires awe, inspiration, and reflection.
