This painting is one of several studies of the green vase. The vase is a challenge to draw and paint, particularly because of the reflections. I have been exploring the relationship of the vase with other subject matters. The two apples are intense in color against the grey-white background. Consequently, the soft tone background compliments the lovely color of the vase and apples.
My goal was to create an intense yet quiet image that would create a sense of peace and relaxation.
