Black Head, Monhegan Island

This is one of several paintings in a series of "Blackhead" points on Monhegan Island. It is a unique and extraordinary location. The sea washes against the rugged shoreline while the evergreen trees keep watch. I wanted to create a deep sense of space by including the cliff in the foreground with the rocks jutting out in the middle ground. This allowed the "Blackhead" point to appear in the distance.

This painting was done from sketches on the spot and finished in the studio.
