Garden of Eden

One of the most beautiful places on planet Earth is the Eastern Promenade overlooking Casco Bay, Portland, Maine in the summertime. This is a 22x28 oil painting on canvas. I could not help but think of the Garden of Eden throughout the process of this painting. The floral garden's beauty against the bay's brilliant blue is breathtaking in the late summer. The image evokes a feeling of peace and serenity. As I progressed through the picture, I referenced artists like John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer, and Edward Hopper. I was determined to capture the late afternoon sun creating long, deep, rich-colored shadows.
